Croydon Mosque & Islamic Centre ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Croydon Mosque mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our App.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Our App is designed to serve the Muslim community with prayer times, Qibla direction, and mosque announcements while collecting minimal data.

Information We Collect

Location Data

• What: Your device's location coordinates
• Why: To calculate and display the Qibla (direction to Makkah) for prayer
• When: Only when you access the Qibla compass feature
• Storage: Your location is processed on your device only and is NOT transmitted to our servers or stored

Device Information

• Push Notification Tokens: If you enable prayer reminders, we store an anonymous device token to send notifications
• Platform Type: We record whether you use iOS or Android to ensure notifications are delivered correctly

No Personal Data Collection

We do NOT collect:

• Names or contact information
• Email addresses
• Phone numbers
• Photographs or media files
• Browsing history or app usage patterns
• IP addresses or device identifiers
• Any personally identifiable information

You can use all features of the app (prayer times, announcements, events, etc.) completely anonymously. No account or registration is required.

Push Notifications

Our App offers optional push notifications to remind you of prayer times and keep you informed about mosque announcements.

What We Collect for Notifications

• An anonymous device token (a random string of characters)
• Your device platform (iOS or Android)

What We Do NOT Collect

• Your name or identity
• Your phone number
• Your location for notifications
• Any personal information linked to notifications

How Notifications Work

When you enable notifications, your device generates a random token. This token is not linked to your identity - it simply allows us to send reminders to your device. We cannot identify who you are from this token.

Your Control Over Notifications

• Notifications are completely optional
• You can enable/disable them at any time in the app
• You can also control them in your device settings
• Disabling notifications removes your token from our system

Data Storage and Security

• Location data is processed entirely on your device and never leaves your phone
• Notification tokens are stored securely on our database servers with industry-standard encryption
• We do not sell, trade, or transfer any data to third parties

Third-Party Services

Our App uses the following third-party services:

• Aladhan API (aladhan.com) - To fetch accurate prayer times. No personal data is shared.
• Supabase - For storing mosque announcements, events, and notification tokens. Supabase complies with GDPR.
• Expo Notifications - To deliver push notifications to your device.

Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your data:

• Location Access: You can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings. The Qibla feature will not work without it, but all other App features remain functional.
• Push Notifications: You can disable notifications in your device settings or within the App at any time.
• Uninstall: Removing the App deletes all locally stored data from your device.

Children's Privacy

Our App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The App is suitable for all ages as it does not require any personal information to function.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the App and on this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
